Presented by Goethe-Institut Montréal

Goethe-Front-DoorThe Goethe-Institut Montréal was founded in 1962 and is located in the center of Quartier des spectacles. From its base in Montréal, which has three million inhabitants, the Goethe-Institut organizes cultural events in Québec, the Atlantic Provinces and Ottawa, the capital of Canada. The cultural program focuses on the following areas which are equally important to Germany and Canada: Dance-Theatre, Film and Media Arts. By organizing projects with German and Canadian artists and intellectuals who are called upon to work together, the Goethe-Institut encouragesmutual understanding between the two countries. Through seminars for teachers and its language courses, the Goethe-Institut strengthens interest in the German language. The Goethe-Institut Montreal has the largest language department of Goethe-Instituts in North America. Almost 900 students take language courses at the Goethe-Institut Montreal or at its branch in Ottawa. The Goethe-Institut provides information about Germany through its website and the Information Centre, which has over 7,500 titles, including German newspapers, magazines, cds and films in video and dvd format. Two computers with internet connection are available to the public for research about Germany. Finally, the Information Centre organizes various projects to encourage exchange between information specialists in German and Canada.
